How Much Does a Private Driver Cost in Bali?

A private driver in Bali with Trip Down Bali starts from IDR 300,000 for a short airport transfer, and from IDR 1,200,000 for a full private day (12 hours) with a larger vehicle. The exact price depends on the vehicle you need, your destination, and how many hours you’re on the road. Below, I’ll break down exactly what each option costs and what’s included, with no hidden fees and no surprises.

Hi, I’m Beni, your driver at Trip Down Bali. I personally pick up every guest, so everything below reflects my actual prices and service, not generic estimates.

Airport transfer prices by destination with A private driver

Picking you up from Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) is the most common request. Prices depend on where you’re staying and how many passengers/how much luggage you have.

Standard MPV (up to 4 passengers with luggage, 6 without)

Destination

Price (IDR)

Kuta

300,000

Jimbaran, Legian

300,000

Nusa Dua, Seminyak, Sanur

350,000

Uluwatu, Canggu

400,000

Ubud

500,000

Tegallalang

600,000

Padangbai

700,000

Candidasa

750,000

Amed

800,000

Tulamben

850,000

Lovina

1,000,000

Gilimanuk, Pemuteran

1,200,000

Minibus (up to 10 passengers with luggage, 14 without)

Destination

Price (IDR)

Kuta

600,000

Jimbaran, Legian

600,000

Nusa Dua, Seminyak, Sanur

650,000

Uluwatu, Canggu

750,000

Ubud

850,000

Tegallalang

850,000

Padangbai

1,100,000

Candidasa

1,200,000

Amed

1,300,000

Tulamben

1,500,000

Lovina

1,500,000

Gilimanuk, Pemuteran

1,500,000

Both vehicles include: driver, air-conditioned vehicle, mineral water, fuel, and parking/toll road fees.

Full-day private tours

If you want a driver for the whole day, for a private tour, wedding, or exploring the island with a larger group, the Toyota Hiace is the option to go for.

Toyota Hiace (up to 14 passengers): IDR 1,200,000 per day

Duration: 12 hours (valid until 10:00 PM)

Overtime: 10% of the day price per additional hour

Includes: English-speaking driver, air-conditioned vehicle, mineral water, fuel, parking fees

Capacity: 14 people without luggage, or up to 10 people with luggage

Additional charges may apply for trips outside the standard service area

This vehicle is ideal for day trips, airport transfers, hotel transfers, weddings, or private group tours around the island. If your group is larger than 14 passengers, let me know in advance. I can arrange a trusted colleague driver so the whole group travels together on the same route and schedule.

What’s included and what isn’t

Included in every booking:

Driver and vehicle

Fuel

Mineral water

Parking/toll road fees

Air-conditioned vehicle

Not included:

Entrance tickets for temples or attractions

Personal expenses

Meals and drinks (beyond the included mineral water)

Why does the price change by destination?

The further the destination from the airport or south Bali, the higher the price. This reflects the extra driving time and fuel, not a random markup. A transfer to Kuta or Legian (10 to 15 minutes) is priced very differently from a transfer to Lovina or Gilimanuk, which can take 2.5 to 3 hours each way.

How does an airport pickup work?

All I need is your flight number, and I’ll take care of the rest. I personally track your flight and make sure I’m ready when you land, so there’s no waiting around and no confusion at arrivals. After you land, I’ll bring you safely to your accommodation so you can relax and start your holiday.

When it’s time to head home, I’ll pick you up from your villa, hotel, or accommodation and make sure you arrive at the airport with plenty of time for your flight. I always factor in Bali’s traffic and busy travel hours, and we’ll agree on the best pickup time together in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Is the price per person or per vehicle? Prices are per vehicle, not per person, so if you’re traveling as a group, splitting the cost between passengers often makes a private driver cheaper per person than a taxi app.

What if my flight is delayed? I track your flight number and adjust the pickup time accordingly, at no extra cost.

Can I book a vehicle for a group larger than 14 people? Yes. Let me know your group size in advance and I can arrange a trusted colleague driver so everyone travels together on the same route and schedule.

Do I need to pay for the driver’s meals? No, this isn’t required, though it’s appreciated if we’re out for a full day together.

What happens if I need the car longer than 12 hours? Overtime is charged at 10% of the day price per additional hour, so just let me know in advance if you expect a longer day.

Anyone visiting Bali for the first time will often notice it very quickly: almost everything is arranged through WhatsApp.

In the Netherlands, Belgium, or other parts of Europe, you may be used to websites, emails, and booking systems. In Bali, things often work in a much more personal and direct way.

Whether you want to arrange:

Airport transport

Scooter rental

Excursions

A private driver

Villa bookings

Restaurant reservations

Laundry services

Complete day trips

There is a good chance someone will say:

“Chat me on WhatsApp.”

And honestly, in Bali this works surprisingly well.

WhatsApp is part of daily life in Bali

In Indonesia, WhatsApp is used by almost everyone. For many local entrepreneurs, it is the main way to communicate with customers.

Instead of:

Filling in forms

Waiting days for emails

Creating accounts

Using complicated booking systems

You can often simply send a direct message.

For example:

“Is the tour still available?”

“Can you pick us up from the airport?”

“How much is a private driver for one day?”

“Can you arrange a trip to Ubud?”

Most of the time, you will receive a quick and personal reply.

Personal contact fits Bali perfectly

Balinese culture is strongly based on personal contact, friendliness, and trust. Many people prefer doing business with someone they can speak to directly, instead of using an anonymous system.

That is one of the reasons why WhatsApp is so popular in Bali.

You are often speaking directly with:

The driver

The guide

The owner

The person who will arrange your trip

This makes communication more personal and flexible.

Why WhatsApp is ideal for tourists

For travellers, WhatsApp is very useful in Bali.

You can use it to:

Ask questions before booking

Discuss prices

Receive photos

Share your live location

Send your hotel or villa location

Pass on changes quickly

Stay in direct contact during your stay

Plans in Bali can sometimes change unexpectedly because of:

Traffic

Weather

Ceremonies

Road closures

A change in your own travel plans

With WhatsApp, it is easy to adjust things quickly.

How I work at TripDown Bali

At TripDown Bali, I personally arrange almost everything through WhatsApp.

Many guests really like this, because they can contact me directly before they arrive in Bali. No complicated systems, no automatic replies, just personal contact.

Before your trip, you can already message me for:

Airport transport

A private driver

Complete day trips

Excursions

Help with your travel planning

Tips about Bali

Questions about your stay

This way, you can travel to Bali with more peace of mind, knowing that important things are already arranged.

During your stay, I also remain available through WhatsApp. This makes it easy to:

Adjust your plans

Book extra trips

Ask questions

Arrange something last minute

Share your location

Stay in touch during your tour

For many guests, this feels relaxed, personal, and reliable.

Arrange everything from home

One of the biggest advantages of WhatsApp is that you can already arrange things from home.

Whether you are in the Netherlands, Belgium, or somewhere else in the world, you can contact me directly before arriving in Bali.

Many travellers like to arrange the following in advance:

Airport pickup

Private driver

Day tours

Travel planning

Special requests

This gives extra comfort when arriving in Bali.

After a long flight, it is nice to know:

Who will pick you up

Where you need to go

What time your driver will be there

Who to contact if something changes

WhatsApp is faster than email

In Bali, email is used much less for daily communication. WhatsApp is simply faster and more practical.

With WhatsApp, you can easily:

Receive a quick reply

Send photos

Share live locations

Send Google Maps pins

Ask short questions

Confirm appointments

Make quick changes

Because of this, communication often feels much easier than through traditional booking systems.

Voice notes and location sharing

In Bali, many people also use voice notes on WhatsApp. This may feel a little different at first, but it is often faster and more personal.

Location sharing is also very useful in Bali, because addresses are not always as clear as in Europe.

Through WhatsApp, you can easily:

Share your live location

Send your hotel or villa location

Send a meeting point

Stay in contact with your driver

Avoid confusion about pickup points

This is especially helpful for airport transfers, day trips, and villa pickups.

Why many Balinese businesses use WhatsApp

For local entrepreneurs in Bali, WhatsApp has many advantages.

It is:

Simple

Fast

Personal

Affordable

Easy to use

Many small businesses do not need a complicated website or booking system. For them, social media combined with WhatsApp is often enough to help customers every day.

There can also be some disadvantages

The informal way of working in Bali can sometimes have small disadvantages.

For example:

Replies may sometimes take a little longer

Plans can change spontaneously

Communication may feel less structured than in Europe

Not every business uses fixed booking systems

But many travellers actually enjoy this personal and flexible way of arranging things.

WhatsApp is more than just a chat app in Bali

In Bali, WhatsApp is much more than just a chat app.

It is used for:

Customer service

Travel planning

Reservations

Direct contact

Navigation

Location sharing

Personal service

At TripDown Bali, I use WhatsApp to help guests personally and make everything as easy as possible. From the first contact before your trip to complete day trips during your stay in Bali.

And because I know many of my guests still like to check a website first, I even had this website made especially for you. 😉

But don’t worry, here in Bali we still keep things simple. After you have had a look around, you can just send me a message on WhatsApp.

This means you can often arrange a large part of your Bali trip directly from home, simply through WhatsApp.

Beni

When you travel through Bali during Galungan, you immediately notice that something special is happening.

The streets are decorated with tall bamboo poles, families are dressed beautifully in traditional clothes, temples are full of offerings, and the atmosphere feels warm, spiritual, and deeply connected to Balinese culture.

For many visitors, Galungan is one of the most memorable cultural experiences in Bali. It is not just a ceremony or a public holiday. It is a meaningful period where family, tradition, spirituality, and community come together.

At TripDown Bali, I believe that Bali becomes even more beautiful when you understand the stories behind what you see. Galungan is one of those moments where you get a closer look at the real Bali.

What Is Galungan?

Galungan is one of the most important religious celebrations for Balinese Hindus.

It celebrates the victory of dharma over adharma, which means the victory of good over evil. During this period, Balinese families honour their ancestors, visit temples, prepare offerings, and spend time together with family.

According to Balinese belief, ancestral spirits return to visit their families during Galungan. Because of this, homes, temples, and streets are beautifully decorated to welcome them.

The celebration is based on the Balinese Pawukon calendar, which has a 210-day cycle. That is why Galungan does not fall on the same date every year in the international calendar.

In 2026, Galungan will be celebrated on June 17, followed by Kuningan on June 27. Kuningan marks the end of the Galungan period, when the ancestral spirits are believed to return to heaven.

The Beautiful Penjor: The Symbol of Galungan

One of the first things you will notice during Galungan is the penjor.

A penjor is a tall, curved bamboo pole decorated with coconut leaves, fruits, flowers, rice, and small offerings. You will see them placed in front of homes, shops, temples, and along roads all over Bali.

For tourists, the penjor makes Bali look even more magical. Streets suddenly become colourful, elegant, and full of meaning.

But a penjor is more than decoration. It is a symbol of gratitude, prosperity, and respect to the gods. It also represents the connection between humans, nature, and the spiritual world.

Driving through Bali during Galungan, especially through local villages, is a beautiful experience. The roads are lined with penjor, families are preparing ceremonies, and the whole island feels alive with tradition.

What Happens During Galungan?

Galungan is not only one day. It is part of a longer ceremonial period.

In the days before Galungan, Balinese families are busy preparing food, offerings, and decorations. Many families return to their home villages to pray together and visit relatives.

On Galungan day itself, people usually visit temples and family shrines. They wear traditional Balinese clothing and bring carefully prepared offerings. The atmosphere is respectful, joyful, and very family-focused.

You may also see:

Families walking to temples in traditional dress

Streets decorated with penjor

More ceremonies in villages and temples

Offerings in front of homes and businesses

Local traffic around temples and village roads

Some shops or small businesses closing for family ceremonies

For visitors, it is a wonderful time to see Balinese culture in a very authentic way. But it is also important to remember that Galungan is a religious celebration, not a tourist show.

What Is Kuningan?

Kuningan takes place ten days after Galungan and marks the closing of the celebration period.

On this day, Balinese families make special offerings and prayers. The name Kuningan is often connected with the colour yellow, and yellow rice, called nasi kuning, can be part of the offerings and celebrations.

Kuningan is also a spiritual moment. It is believed that the ancestral spirits return to heaven on this day after visiting their families during Galungan.

For visitors, Kuningan can feel a little quieter than Galungan, but it is still a very meaningful and beautiful day in Bali.

Can Tourists Experience Galungan?

Yes, tourists can experience the atmosphere of Galungan, but always with respect.

You do not need to take part in religious ceremonies unless you are invited by a local family or guide. However, you can still enjoy the beauty of the island during this period.

Good ways to experience Galungan as a visitor:

Take a drive through traditional villages

Visit temple areas respectfully from the outside

Watch the penjor decorations along the roads

Learn from a local driver or guide about the meaning behind the celebration

Dress respectfully if you visit a temple area

Be patient with traffic or changed opening hours

Never disturb ceremonies for photos

If you want to take photos, always do it politely. Avoid standing too close to people praying, and never walk in front of a ceremony.

A good local driver can help you understand where to go, what you are seeing, and how to behave respectfully.

Is Bali Open During Galungan?

Yes, Bali stays open during Galungan.

Unlike Nyepi, when the whole island becomes silent and almost everything closes, Galungan is different. Hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions, and transport services often continue, although some local businesses may close temporarily because families are attending ceremonies.

It is useful to plan a little extra time for travel, especially when driving through villages or temple areas. Roads can be busier than usual in some places.

If you book a driver, day trip, airport transfer, or activity during Galungan, it is always smart to arrange everything in advance.

Why Galungan Is a Special Time to Visit Bali

Many travellers come to Bali for beaches, waterfalls, rice fields, temples, food, and adventure. But Bali is much more than beautiful places.

Bali has a very strong culture, and Galungan is one of the best times to feel that.

During Galungan, you see the island at its most authentic. Families come together. Villages are decorated. Offerings are everywhere. People take time for prayer, gratitude, and tradition.

It gives you a deeper understanding of why Bali feels different from many other destinations.

This is not just an island with beautiful views. It is an island with a living culture.

Tips for Visiting Bali During Galungan

If you are in Bali during Galungan, these tips can help you enjoy the experience in a respectful and relaxed way.

1. Book transport in advance

Because many local families are busy with ceremonies, it is better to arrange transport early. This is especially important for airport transfers, full-day tours, or trips to more remote areas.

2. Be respectful around temples

Wear respectful clothing near temples and ceremonies. If you enter a temple area, you may need a sarong and sash.

3. Expect some local closures

Some small shops, local warungs, or services may be closed for part of the day. This is normal during important ceremonies.

4. Take your time

Traffic can be slower in some areas because of ceremonies and family visits. Do not plan your day too tightly.

5. Ask questions

Balinese people are often proud of their culture and happy to explain things when asked respectfully. A local guide or driver can make the experience much more meaningful.
